THCA vs THC: What’s the Difference?
THC and THCA are one heat step apart
THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is the cannabinoid most people mean when they talk about the effects of cannabis. THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its raw, acidic precursor — the form the cannabis plant actually produces while it grows.
On its own, THCA is non-intoxicating. The molecule carries an extra carboxyl group that keeps it from binding effectively to CB1 receptors. Apply heat, and that group breaks off in a reaction called decarboxylation — the THCA converts to THC. Vaporizing does this instantly at the coil.

So a product showing 85% THCA and 1% delta-9 THC has a Total THC of roughly 75.5% once vaporized. If you compare two products, compare their Total THC — not the raw THCA number.

Does THCA get you high?
Raw THCA is non-intoxicating. It converts to THC — the intoxicating cannabinoid — when heated, which happens instantly when a vape coil vaporizes the oil. So a THCA vape produces effects comparable to a THC vape of similar total potency.
Why do THCA products list such a high THCA percentage?
THCA diamonds are among the purest cannabis concentrates available, often isolating above 90% THCA before terpenes are reintroduced. Multiply the THCA percentage by 0.877 and add any delta-9 THC to estimate the Total THC delivered when vaporized.
Is THCA the same thing as THC on a lab report?
No. Labs report them as separate analytes because they are chemically distinct until heat converts THCA to THC. The Total THC line on a COA combines both using the 0.877 conversion factor.
